We have a little seed of our very own growing.....I am due to have a baby in late November 2009. As a result, I have decided to take a maternity leave from my regular job and my beloved floral work.

I am sorry to say that I will not be taking any clients in the coming year, but I look forward to returning to working with brides soon :)

I will source beautiful blooms from my wonderful wholesaler in Victoria, BC, and then arrange them for you in my home. My flat rate arranging fee reflects the average wedding. You can accessorize the plan by adding on any additional arrangements that you will require.

Wedding season is coming!

December is prime engagement season. Many people get engaged at Christmas.... like moi! Thus, wedding vendors start booking up quickly for prime wedding season (summer) in the beginning of the year. I already have many weekends booked up for this summer and I am looking forward to adding more brides to my calendar. I love Christmas break because it means I can spend some time meeting with clients and planning for the upcoming wedding season. I also have time to browse the web for inspiration! I hope you enjoy these bouquet pictures I found and loved!

I love The Knot for their oodles of pictures and endless inspiration.

But, I am always on the lookout for the newest sites and magazines. My friend Lisa at Blush Events told me about Bride and Bloom this summer and I have been hooked ever since. They feature really high-end, interesting and unique flowers and their website does not disappoint. Check it out for gorgeous floral inspiration and fantastic articles to help you plan your wedding.

They have a fabulous selection of bouquet pictures to browse and some particularly inventive boutonnieres and corsages.

I loved this comprehensive list of flowers and their meanings. What will your bouquet mean? I was glad to read that my wedding bouquet of roses meant Love, magic, ultimate beauty, and perfection.

Roses are one of my favourite flowers to work with because they can be mixed with many non-floral elements (like feathers or pearls) to create a unique bouquet at a very reasonable price. They are hardy and hold up well in cold or hot weather, and they make a beautifully shaped bouquet. Which reminds me, I need to slip out and get some roses for my Christmas centrepieces! Christmas Centrepieces 2008

I am providing the centrepieces for my school Christmas party this year and I am excited about the two types we will have! Half the tables will have this branchy mirrored candleholder with tealights (found at Jysk - love that store), and half the tables will have this rose, hypericum and pinecone arrangement. They are doubling as doorprizes and I think people will be happy to take them home! Joyeux Noel!

When my friend Andra from http://iloveweddings.blogspot.com/ contacted me about using some of my floral designs for her segment on BT tomorrow morning I jumped at the chance! She will be speaking about 5 things that brides can do to make their wedding unique and one of them is using silk flowers mixed with fresh for a vibrant and hardy bouquet.
I decided to do one modern and funky bouquet (featuring purple tulips, oxalis and dragon fern with red roses) and a more traditional and feminine bouquet (featuring fresh roses and alstromeria, and silk snowball flower, snowberries and pearls). I am so excited to see them on the small screen tomorrow morning!

A couple notes about why the mixture of silk and fresh is a recipe for success:

Using silk flowers is a fabulous way to incorporate flowers that:
- may be out of season at the time of your wedding
- are difficult to find or very expensive to buy fresh
- are vibrant and unique colours (made to match the rest of your wedding decor!)
- wilt easily in the sun or cold

I get a lot of brides asking about my pricing, so I thought I would use today's fresh fall wedding as an example.

The colours - cream, green and vintage pink. The flowers - fresh hydrangea, roses, lisianthus, hypericum and Israeli Ruscus.

Of course, prices vary depending on flowers, time of year and type of arrangements.....but hopefully this gives you a good idea of what a La Coquette wedding costs.

Rustic, Wild, and Earthy Wedding Bouquet - all silk

Who knew that an all silk wedding bouquet could look so beautiful? I am consistently amazed by the quality and realistic look of modern silk flowers. This may be my favourite bouquet yet (I say that every time I make a new one - but really!). I love the huge English roses, the anemones, and the contrast of the dark purple tulips. And, I love love love using bendy branches to frame the bouquet. Once the bride approves, the stems will be wrapped and they will be ready to go, way in advance of the wedding! A fully silk bouquet is a great option for destination brides, or those with allergies. Guaranteed to look gorgeous all day - no wilting here! And this funky bouquet would make a great centrepiece on your dining room table after the wedding!

Peonies, Hydrangea, Ranunculus Oh My!

This weekend's wedding incorporated my favourite summer flowers - fresh peonies. Their scent is gorgeous (I wish I could make the pictures scratch and sniff!) and when mixed with fresh roses, silk ranunculus and hydrangea the bouquets were both fragrant and beautiful. I have to say my favourite bouquet for this event was the babies breath flowergirl bouquet in a full ribbon wrap. It was so sweet and innocent and turned out beautifully. The bouts incorporated salal leaves, alstromeria, waxflower and twigs, and a rose for the groom. The mother's corsages were silk orchids and sprigs of heather - a dramatic look on a ribbon bracelet. Congratulations to the bride - it was a beautiful day for a wedding!

Pretty Peonies

Here are some pictures of the part silk, part fresh bouquet I created as a sample for a July 12th bride. The fresh peonies have filled my house with their beautiful, intoxicating smell, and the roses left over from last weeks wedding worked well with the silk hydrangea and ranunculus to give this bride an idea of what I will create for her big day.

Pink and Romantic Wedding

Here is one teaser pic of the bouquets from this weekend's wedding. Amy was a beautiful bride and her romantic (and pink!) vision for the wedding came out in every detail, including the flowers. We worked with a mixture of silk and real flowers and the result was a dreamy, romantic, soft bouquet with pearl embellishments.

J'adore les fleurs!

I have always loved flowers, and one of my first jobs was working in a floral department of a specialty organic grocery store. I loved creating and arranging the wide array of flowers that we carried, and dreamed of one day creating my own wedding bouquet. Last year, I did just that. I had a vision of a wintery bouquet complete with fur wrapped stems and icicle-y embellishments. They looked beautiful, and I looked forward to helping out friends with their wedding floral arrangements.

I am excited to start thinking about offering my services to Calgary brides that aren't part of my family...hopefully this summer. Stay tuned!
